Where you’ll go
Take a day tour into the Kingdom of Lesotho from Durban, going in a 4-wheel drive vehicle through the precipitous Sani Pass following the Natal Midlands and Himeville in a more standard vehicle. Visit a Sotho town to meet the local folks, and then set out toward the Sani Pass Top Chalet for lunch (included) before we head back to Durban.
What you’ll see
Visit a Sotho Village in Lesotho. We will start with the drive toward the Kingdom of Lesotho, an independent nation totally enclosed by South Africa. Journey through the Natal Midlands, appreciating the landscape, and stop in the town of Himeville, where you’ll continue in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. The following part of the trip includes going up the inconceivably steep Sani Pass, achievable only with a 4-wheel drive. At the summit we will go through immigration at the border — this is another nation, after all — then you have arrived in Lesotho. Stopover at a Sotho town, meet local people and taking in the views from the mountaintop, before proceeding to a lunch at the Sani Pass Top Chalet (included) with still all the more amazing perspectives. After lunch, we go back down the Sani Pass to Durban. Take note: if time permits, you will have an opportunity to stop at the 310-foot tall Howick Waterfall on your return trip to Durban.
