Where You’ll Go
The source of the Nile is is also just as famous for a Jinja sunset cruise or AKA Jinja booze cruise. Yes, this infamous river is an unforgettable experience made even more unforgettable by the fun which can be had on the boat. Some call it a sunset cruise as we said and some refer to this 2 hour boat trip as the “Jinja booze cruise” but regardless, it is great value and highly enjoyable.
Travelling up river toward the recently constructed dam, the boat itself has two floors with ample space and a toilet at the back. You can expect a nice cruise with many locals along the banks washing their clothes, swimming and being social in general.
What You’ll See / Experience
Expect plenty of soft or alcoholic drinks of all kinds, the price of this cruise includes an open bar with unlimited drinks for everyone on board. Early on, the crew will provide snacks (carrots/celery with peanut sauce) and more snacks (Bruschetta) and later something more substantial (chicken, ribs and vegetarian patty’s).
Along the river you will often encounter many bird species, monkeys and then locals washing their clothes but the sunset is usually the highlight which is best seen whilst on the river itself. If you are lucky, the guides can sometimes offer a Fish Eagle demonstration which is not to be missed.
When You’ll Go
The Jinja booze cruise (Sunset Cruise) departs from the jetty at Nile River Explorers Campsite on the river at 5pm every day but must be reserved in advance and tickets do sell out. The sunset cruise in Jinja is undoubtedly one of the more popular Uganda day tours.
