Description

Kilkenny is one of the most famous medieval cities in Ireland situated on the River Nore. Surronding a 12th century castle, the city is filled with beautiful narrow streets, churches and quaint cafe’s at every turn. It is also home to the Kilkenny Art & Design Centre which captures the craftmanship of the town and you can witness here, the Goldsmiths, painters etc as these crafts men and women go about their daily work.

Take a walk through the narrow historic alleyway’s that make up the city and visit some of the most well known buildings in town including the church at the top of town which allows visitors to climb the enchanting tower for spectacular views.

You are also given the option of visiting the historical Dunmore Caves on this day which was the scene of the worst Viking massacre in Irish history.

WICKLOW DAY TOUR

After lunch you will take a short roadtrip through the renowned Wicklow Mountains. Watch the landscape change from rugged brown to lush green with dramatic valleys forming each side of the glacial valleys.

Many famous movie scenes were made in these parts such as Braveheart or PS I Love You and you will have a 15 minute stop for photographs at the top of the Wicklow Mountains.

GLENDALOUGH TOUR

You will travel into the glacial valley’s which is the last part of your Glendalough day tour.

The two lakes are majestic in the middle of these valley’s and the monastic site next to it makes for a very unique experience.

St Kevins monastery dates back to  600 AD and  was a centre of learning and religous site. From here, Christianity was re established in Europe after what is known as the dark ages.

Departing Glendalough, you will journey further through the Wicklow mountains and back toward Dublin.
